I need some advice on how to repair a flip up head light assembly that doesn't flip on a 98 bird

Is it stuck down or up? If it's already up, you will probably need to replace the motor, or rebuild it. Check for any wiring/fuse problems, or loose connections first.

If it's stuck down, you can "roll" it up manually. There is a bolt on the motor that allows you to do that. I will take pics tomorrow if you need further assistance.

Manually opening your headlights is pretty simple. Behind the headlights you'll find a rubber cover that says Remove for Manual Operation. Remove it, and you'll see the manual control knob. Use a socket to adjust your headlight up. Replace the cover and do the same to the other side. See pics below.

If you find no loose connections, then more than likely your light motors have gone out, and need replaced, or rebuilt.

Wasn't there a problem with the plastic gears wearing out on those?

Thought that was only for the older Birds such as mine. But unsure about that.

Well, it's not always a gear problem. And since he hasn't stated what they actual problem is, it's hard to help.

Many Thanks to all that replied, especially Mike and Chuck who sent photos and a website to get repair parts.

We're here to help. Like Mike said if you explain your problem better we'll get the dam thing fixed for you. Do you here a noise when turning on the headlights? If so it may be a gear. If you here nothing its a fuse or something else. Keep us updated!
