Pontiac Pheonix SJ

Just wandering if anyone was into them? Never heard of them til the other day when one ended up in the junkyard. If anyone needs parts, let me know and I can grab them.

They have the electric vacuum pump for the brakes under the battery box don't they? If you could get that, I'd be real interested. Thanks.

You'll have to let me know what years you are talking about. Not that it really matters as they have a first gen 4 door and a second gen 2 door, which is the SJ model.

I don't think it matters what year it is for my needs as long as it has a pump. My plan is to add the pump in line with my manifold vacuum line to the booster on my 75 bird to help my brakes. ( cam is going to be a little large)

You might be thinking of the disastrous Power Master III system GM used in early Cutlass Supreme convertibles, Turbo Grand Prixs and other W bodies as well as the 6000 AWDs.

Maybe I am Jay. I'm going by old half remembered info.Do you know if the Phoenix has it also? If I remember correctly they said that if there was another line teed in to the main vacuum feed to the booster, it had the pump. I'm pretty sure the 6000s had it, now that you mention it.

If I remember right, those pumps are pretty loud when they kick on... maybe not, but we had a Buick that had one, and when you hit the brake when the engine was off, it would kick on. Maybe it was loose though. LOL!

They are loud...And expensive AS HELL to replace.

They were only used from 1989-91 on W bodies (Regal, GP, Lumina and Cutlass Supreme) and the AWD 6000, IIRC and when there was no power to the brake system, there were no brakes. So having one of these systems and for some reason you lose all electrical power...Clean out your shorts afterwards.

That thing was mounted right under the battery tray... I think. Wasn't a regal though, but a ... damn I don't remember now. LOL! Big car. Ahh! Looked like the Olds Ninety eight... maybe it was an olds. LOL! God! Shows how much I cared about that car. All I remember is it was a 1980 model.

Why spend that kind of money, when you can get the same pump from a junked out GM car that no one wants for next to nothing?
