I think it can be used for either. Remember to slow it down both in speed and feed rate and use some cutting fluid for metal.

I work at a machine shop, so i can get some fluid in my water bottle I need it for a few small jobs on some 18 gauge metal panels I have and don't really want to spend too much on it.

Also remember that use caution when buying from HF. I've spent alot of money in their local store. Some of their items are outright, don't waste your money junk. Lots of soft steel used in their products. Sometimes this doesn't matter. Depending on what your trying to accomplish with these saws and what size your looking to use, look at the knockout punch set they offer. If you pokin a hole in thin sheet metal, the knockouts leave a nice clean easy to place hole. Their sizes are limited though. Greenlee makes a lot more sizes but charges a premium price for them. The Greenlee are well made though for sure.

My bet is that you'll have trouble keeping the drill bit sharp, but the hole saw should at least make a few good cuts through the sheet metal. The problem with the bits being dull, it it's difficult to get a precise hole. I just said f@ck it, and bought some DeWalt hole saws, after using some cheapies for so long.

Buy the good stuff and forget the rest. Cheap stuff dulls/breaks/fails at the worst time, usually resulting in damage and injury. Just spend the money on the good drill bits, saw blades, etc and they will last you a lifetime.

Nothing pisses me off more than trying to help a guy and all he has to use is dull drill bits and worn hacksaw blades!
