Outlaw's stroking the 400 to 496ci

We decide it was time to build a street 91 oct stroker on an affordable budget as not everybody can afford the IA11 block so we are going to use a stock early 400 block and a Scat 4.500 forged crank.

Popular Hot Rodding will be covering the whole build in the magazine too

THE COMBO

Block Early 400 4.185 bore
Crank Scat 4340 forged steel 4.500 stroke
Rods Scat BBC 6.700 with arp bolts
Pistons J.E. Digitised inverted dome (Dome same shape as chamber on head)
Rings Total seal AP
Heads Edelbrock 72 cc with our new CNC ports
Cam Comp cams Hyd Roller (grind yet to be decided)
Intake Performer RPM
Carb Holley 950 HP
Dist MSD

The Goal is to make a good street driving torque monster that will run on 91octane fuel and drive to the track and pop off a 10 sec pass!!! It will be going in our street 69 firebird for the testing!

As you know our Road Warrior 620 (467ci) HR pump gas motor puts out more than most other engine builders 505 combo's at 620HP and 625LB/FT so with 30 more cubic inches and our new CNC E Head we will be looking to get around 660+HP and 630+ LB/FT.

Oh yeh if you do the math 4.185 x 4.185 x 4.500 x .7854 x 8 it comes out to 495.2 we just thought we'd call it a 496 to mess with the chevy guys .lol.

Indeed looks good, as i understand it stroked motors make more torque? so would this work with a lower CR and forced induction?

This type of build is good for everyone, as it allows anyone who cannot afford the aftermarket blocks, to have a sweet engine still. More guys should be building stuff like this. Great project, Andy!

Are there any special parts needed? Like the oil pan or a small base circle cam? Sounds like quite the torque monster.

Thanks A.X. Thats exactly why im doing it and we are not putting the block to its limit we have done street engines at 670HP with stock blocks for years with no failures,so 660+ will give plenty of longevity with some affordability, you can have a stret cruiser Mon-Fri and go blow some Fords and Chevy's off at the track on the weekend!

You Know the old UK racers Moto Graeme

The 6 P's

P.P.P.P.P.P.

Perfect Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

And yes a lower CR with 5-7lbs of boost will work fine

Check out Dec issue of PHR -

Also i know its a BBC but we did a 509 with a 8/71 blower it made 850HP on Pump gas (although we did run it on mix for safety) David Vizard wrote the story

I've read some of David Vazard's stuff. Very sharp individual.

CV1 head news

We will be testing the new CV1 heads on this engine as well as our Ported E-Heads so we will get a good A-B test

First test will be with the Eheads in about 4 weeks,we are not sure if Jim will have our test set of CV1 heads by then but if we do i will change them while the engine is still on the dyno!

Here are the two heads that will be tested on the 496,our ported E heads and the CV1's next to each other so you can see the difference.

I can already tell you after carefully examining the CV1 heads that the chamber shape, valve placement & intake port design is far superior to the E-Head or KRE Hi port heads

(this head is a proto type the exhuast has been modified on the production heads)

Dude!!!! Those are sweet. Interesting how the intake ports are also canted. Definitely looks to be a good flowing unit.

Well things have been slow on this build weve been waiting for parts,CV1s should be ready soon and now we have added a new feature to the E-Heads a semi wide port,we can do this by adding Yella Terra rocker shafts with a .250 intake offset, these rockers are made in Aussie land and are $649 a set.
