Mandrel bent exhaust pricing

Sorry this isn't for my Pontiac but it will be useful when I'm ready to get exhaust on it.

Ok, So I have the mufflers, cats, headers, cut outs, and turn downs for the exhaust on my truck. I just need someone to weld me in a mandrel bent exhaust system. The first shop I went to said $300 but they don't do mandrel bends. Just that kinked crap.

The second shop is a real performance shop and they said $1000. That seems high to me. What do yall pay for mandrel bent true dual exhaust?

Have a look on summit or jegs as i think they sell the mandrel bends, you can ten just weld or band clamp the system together

That's what I was thinking. The kit is only 200$. And I'm not running my exhaust all the way out the back so that should be plenty of bends.

my 96's true duals which involves removing the factory muffler with 2 new flowmasters and 3 inch pipes to the rear on one side behind the axle was $450 (4 bends a pipe) this was basically cats back , mandrel bend are labor intensive as you have to deal with a inner and outer die to make the smooth bend and the bender is 3 times as expensive .it took my guy 8 hours to remove old , bend and weld in new .

Are your duals mandrel? This shop is trying to charge me almost 400$ just for the piping. They don't even have a bender they just buy piping from someone else.

I'm not even running my exhaust all the way out the back. They came up with like 11 bends X $25 a bend. I'm gunna buy the kit from Jegs and use that. I don't see how it can be more than 6 bends. The passenger side should be straight with no bends unless I need to come up over the tranny cross member. The drivers side just needs to 2 bends to get to the passenger side because the 35 gallon gas tank takes up the entire drivers side. I'm gunna wait until I get the headers to make sure though.

yep they are dual mandrel and one piece bent ( the pipe is only about 8 foot from the muffler to the end ) , the shop I go to has been bending for 20 + years he starts in the middle and works his way out to the ends and puts sand in the pipes afterward to keep them from collapsing at the next bend , I have a longbed with the 7.4(454) liter in it ,so I had him put both pipes out the same side behind the wheel it has to make one bend to go around the shock asorber and he mounted the flowmasters on there sides tilted about 20 degrees (instead of flat ) with the enterance on the bottom and exit on the top so he has more clearance as it moved the pipes in towards the driveshaft and the bend around the shock is a 45 degree angle to clear the spare and the rest is right with in 2 feet of the spring and outlets . and he uses all the factory style mountsand points with the rod and biscuit , I thought about the kit but it wasn't galvanized/aluminized and thick enough to suit me and then you have to get a tool to make the slip joints asthey aren't flaired , the band clamps don't hold butt joints to well and they cost too much too .

Sounds like you got a killer deal. I'll keep looking and see if I can find a better shop.

the tool to do the slip joints is around 50 bucks and being your from Texas you don't have to deal with the salt and chloride they throw on the hiways in the winter which eats them out this is why I go for the thicker tubing and aluminizing or galvanized pipe . My last exaust system I put together myself only lasted 3 years before it rotted out

For what it's worth now, I bought a Millermatic welder rig and bought the jegs kit for $200. I used 2 bends out of the kit and had the rest left over. 10 hours late here is what I made

I think it was the weather but with the new exhaust system I only picked up .07 seconds in my 1/4. It was hot and humid though. I did knock .4 off my 0-60 though. 7.0 to 6.6

I'm gunna use the rest of the pipe on my Pontiac

The system is on my truck and you can barely see it because of the frame. The frame was in the way so I couldn't go sideways.

The cats are stock dodge cats, I gutted them and ran the pipe through it and welded them.
