Dash cleaning?

OK, here I am getting ready to change dashes in my bird. I have an extra on that's nearly perfect. I've been thinking I should clean it etc. My problem is I haven't really kept up on cleaners and treatments for vinyl since the 70's. I had a couple of my dashes split and crack back then from using Armorall and knew plenty of other folks that happened to also. My question is, what's a good thing to use on dashes? The vinyl is still soft on this one.

Petroleum Jelly!! Why? Becausethe petroleum will soak in and make your vinyl nice and soft, and keep it nice and soft. This is how I protect those types of parts through the years, when I store them.

Petroleum Jelly! It's not just for strokin'!

I like the Meguiars Shine (Not shiny as the name would imply) For cleaning I wouldnt use anything cept some soap and water on that dash, in the clunkers I buy I usually use superclean on things OTHER than the little lettering cause it will take the white right off too.

I like Meguiars number 40, its in their proffesional line It makes rubber and vinyl both look brand new, and it has leather oils in it so it smells pretty good too. the oils also keep everything plyable.

BTW I'd clean it good first with some mild soap and water.

Yep. the key word is MILD soap. Then Vasoline that Mofo Up, and you're set. It's kept my vinyl stuff sweet for years and years.

I have the Zaino Leather in a bottle. I use it, but only on routine cleanings.

Zaino polishes are nothing short of amazing. By far the easiest to use. I got the Woolite trick from a pro detailer, and it works bad ass on leather and vinyl. Besides, the wife doesn't care.

Laugh if you will, I use Baby Shampoo to clean my vinyl. And Mink oil to protect it.

Never thought of baby shampoo, but it is a good mild soap. When I was lot boy at my hometown Chrysler dealership as a kid, we used to use Haw's lemon oil on vinyl. I forgot all about that till you posted mink oil. It really gave the vinyl a good sheen. Don't know what the long term effects were. The boss said it was good for the vinyl tho.

How ironic. LEMON oil used on Chryslers. Maybe it is true, you are what you eat.

Not just Chryslers Rick. It was more for the used cars, so it got used on more Chevies and Fords than Chryslers. We were actually taking more Chevies in on trade than anything. Especially with trucks, weird huh?
