I used 16ga sheet metal on the chevelle when I did it, and I did the same on the 74 ventura I had, both were much stronger than the replacement stuff out there. Sure it was a bit of a PITA to use metal that thick but I thought it was well worth the effort.

sweet project doing it together like that is fun, I learned a lot from both my parents, and hope to get another bird someday to wrench on! Take a lot of pictures.

I expect that there will not be much going on over the next 3 weekends as my daughter has some UIL band marching competitions coming up each saturday. We may get some cleaning done but that'll probably be about it.

LOL..... I thought about showing her the wonders of a q-jet, but the one that's on there is junk.

Edit: Just looked at rebuilder prices on q-jets, we'll take a stab at rebuilding the one thats on there.

Yeah mine made me do the same thing. And I will do the same thing to my kids, They will either rebuild EVERY part of their own cars, OR they wont drive.

That's the best way to learn about your car rather than just replace parts. I used to sit on the porch with a started held between my legs putting it back together, get up close and personal with your cars parts!

I agree with Mike, They don't look like they need a full replacement. Like he said, just cut the small pieces you need to cut and weld in new ones. I used 18 gauage on my '59 when I did the 2 patches. The passenger side had some holes and the drivers side was just weak. I'm glad I did it.

That's the current plan.

Nothing to report this week. As expected we were busy with the band competition. I did manage to drain the gas tank though
