Red face I may bee asking a few questions here in this forum LOL

Picked this up as a project car for my daughter to drive. Will be her first car, and she's going to help fix it. Body is rough but not totally gone, it's got dents and a couple of small rust holes. Lots of surface rust on top and under it, but I don't think too many things are rusted out. Trunk floor is good, hoping that floorboards are also (haven't got the rotten interior out yet). I don't know much about bodywork, but by the end of this I think i'll know a lot more. Any and all help/advise you can give will be much appreciated as I ask dumb questions

Can anyone recommend a good body work reference book?

yeah, my wife is pretty horrified with it (she refuses to get into it, the interior is pretty bad), but I see the inner beauty

this is an original 400/4 speed 10th anniversary car. It's worth saving.

No, the original engine/trans are long gone, but I might have a line on where the original engine is. I'm trying to figure a way to talk her out of it before she goes off to college in a few years, after all it still has the clutch pedal (a th350 is in there right now), and i'm probably going to have a spare 455 sitting around by then.

I've been wanting one of those! Damn you, Mike! Damn you!

I don't think I would build the car back to original if it were mine, but I would make it mostly original on the exterior. Possibly the interior too. I really like the color scheme of those cars, and the overall look. The problem with that paint is, it peeled easily, and faded quickly. Probably the reason for your surface rust problem. New paints of the same color won't have that problem though. Should be an excellent project.

Kind of what I had in mind. Give a nod to the car's heritage, but it doesn't have to be a numbers matching 100 point concurs restoration deal (hell, I can't afford that!). For example, my daughter has already nixed the OEM shag carpet (what the heck was pontiac thinking?), so that's gone. Going to use regular short nap carpet. I'm going to allow her to guide what we do (within reason) since it is her car.

She's already been giving me crap about not getting started on it

The garage is too full, no room to work is why we've not gotten started. I got a storage space today to put away my own bird and make some room for us to work. Project starts saturday morning.

Unfortunately, the one on the right (rear shot) is drag race only. If you squint you can see the roll cage.

The tear down starts tomorrow
