Today I did a few small, yet time consuming things. First I changed all the pins and bushings in my door hinges, then rehung the doors so they opened and closed smoothly. The bushings were really worn out, and they're known to get in Firebirds from the long heavy doors.

As you can see in this pic, there's barely any bushing left.

After the new pin and bushings...

Then I changed both the door handles, the passenger side was broken in half and the driver side one was twisted from people lifting on the handle to open the door since the hinges were so bad.

Since I got the paint for my car now, I decided to get the cowl painted on the car. When I got the paint, I had them make me up a spray can, so I could touch up the door jams and such. Since the car is staying it's original color, I don't have worry about actually spraying the door jambs up before painting the car. I tried using a color off the shelf from the parts store on the cowl, but it was too dark. This color is going to look nice on the whole car.

I want to have it on the road next summer. I pretty much ran out of painting weather this year though. I've got a lot of little things to pick up yet, like shocks, scuff plates, etc, so I'm still a little off. It's nice seeing it get to this stage though, knowing how it was when I first got it.

I didn't get a lot done today, but it was a few more steps forward. I got my pretty exhaust manifolds and Y pipe bolted on today. Hopefully the paint will last for a while, instead of looking at rusted manifolds.

Actually it's going to be kind of stock looking when I'm done. I have a nice H pipe sitting in the shed for my 76 T/A, I was tempted to put on it. I'm not going too balls to the wall with this car as far as mods go, otherwise a lot of other things would be changed.

Got the speaker wires ran to the back today. Then I put the rear seat belts and seats in. I really like the style of these 77 black velour deluxe seats.

I'll have to cut the holes in the top of the cowl, inside the car and install the upper vents next.
Hi!

I am converting my car from a automatic to manual and the problem is that i dont know where i should cut the hole in the tunnel hump in order to get it to line up with the consoll. Do you have any measurements where to cut and place the bracket?

Remy

I salvaged the hump I used from another bird, so it had the hole in the sheet metal still attached I used as a template after I removed the hump from it. If you look at my pix, you can see the rear of the hole is about an inch away from the mounting holes for the auto shifter. Sorry, I didn't take any measurements while I was doing it.Are you using a used hump or an after market one?

Hi!

I am using an aftermarket hump. I guess i have to install the dash and center consoll in order to line up the hump.

Thanks

Remy

Wow, I haven't touched this car since Dec? I put the front seats in finally last weekend, after changing out the busted wires under the seats for new ones. It's staring to look normal inside.
