You don't have to spin it like a small ford or chevy. And, in fact, if you do try to spin it like that you are more than likely to spit a rod out the side of the block. Many pontiacs have been consigned to the junk heap after someone tried to operate the engine like a chevy and blew it up. And serviceable pontiac blocks are starting to dry up, especially 455s.

Pontiacs had shitty rods from the factory, and they are even worse if they have the stock rod bolts in them. However, if you keep the revs in a reasonable range they will usually do the job ok. However, if you are ever into the engine get some replacement rods from PPR - cheap insurance.

Take a more conservative approach, try some 3.42 or 3.55 gears, keep the revs below 5800, put in a slightly looser torque converter, put in some headers and a good flowing exhaust - that should get you into the 13s easy. The stock intake manifold is a good piece, keep it.

And enjoy your pontiac - you have a genuine piece of automotive history

What works for a cheby and a furd dosen't always jive with a Pontiac. They make good low end torque and the 455 is a stump puller but if you try to wind them up really tight you better have some serious money in them to take it or Kaboom real quick.!

Question Huh?

Can't help myself, gotta ask about the camaro vs v-6 stang. cokpit trouble for the camaro or is your little six juiced up or something. My wifes Grand Am GT has taken all the V-6 Stangs I have seen and it has four doors on it. V-6 Camaro, or like I said... cokpit trouble?
just have to ask!

edit
since when is the place a pilot navigates from a word to sensor? so I will misspell it and see it that flies!

dude them grand ams are slick!

4.0L V6, Davis unified ignition ( 45,000 V over stock 32,00 plug gap to .65 from .42 )

larger 45,000 livewires low ohm resistance, 4.10 gears with FRPP 7.5 inch T loc, JLT CAI, SCT X3 dyno 93 octane bama chips tune, hurst short throw spec stage 2, hydro clutch w/ all steel flywheel, KCR shorty headers, TB coolant bypass, independent true dual flowmaster american thunders, firehawk GT 225/55R/16 out back, Torque limiters, modified ram air intake, RP in the tranny and rear, straight penzoil in the motor,

on that day, i was running AC bypass, 1/8 a tank a gas, no jack no tire, took out passenger seat, and rear seats.and cut the alternater.

all in all its that CAI tune and gears that got me there, the problem, when i cross the line im in 4th gear. just a bit to tall for true quarter racing... but she got the job done!.

the 4.10s got me out in front of him, but you know wound out.

i got lightning quick shifts for a manual though, i never fail to impress people with that.

unfortuneatly now shes broke, think i bent a rod, or broke a spring/rocker. will know more monday.

im prolly gonna drop her back down to 3.73 once i get going back to work and back on the highway.

weather driver trouble or not i treed and won lol.

yea im runnin gout of paitence though.

still wouldent buy a damn ford truck!

those things leak oil.

haha and no you cant type that kinda pit. its politically incorect penis pit now.

I'm glad you didn't take offense, I wondered if the Camaro driver didn't have the coc k pit trouble to be beaten by a V-6 mustang. I see you did a lot to your car to make that happen. What was in the Camaro?
In your pictures in that last post, I think the bird still looks better than that stang!
Gotta rib anyone posting Furd pics on this forum
