Found post doors finaly! BUT!

After almost 4 months of trying to track down a set of 69 lemans "post" doors I finaly found some in California. Guy wants 600 bucks for the pair (rust free) but nearly 300 bucks for shipping! Holy shit! 1k nearly for a pair of doors, damn, gotta be a better way to go, or less expensive. Anyone in Cali?

See if you can arrange the shipping yourself, maybe he's trying to make a buck off shipping. I had a trucking co pick up a set of tires in NY and they brought them to MO for like $100

I just used one that the place I was working used. I'm sure you won't have a problem finding one being in Detroit, there has to be a ton off trunking going in and out of there.

Come to think of it I've heard of people shipping by greyhound, at least I could have sworn someone said that over on the PY forum (am I allowed to say that here?)

Trucking to a personal address is more expensive than a business address. If you have deliveries where you work and they don't mind, have things shipped there. We ship a lot of heavy cast iron parts from work. I think freight usually starts at $65 per 100 lbs, but they have a minimum billing with some lines, so 300 maybe what he was quoted. Of course, he may be either using the quoted price from coast to coast, or he may be charging a crating fee, or he may be bending you over.

I know grayhound ships items. You have to pick it up at the bus terminal. Not sure if they would do something the size and weight of a door tho. Or at least do it with banging it all to hell.

I already asked if I could have them shipped here and I was told that if (the boss) let's me do it then he'll have to let anyone else that asks to do it..He's a ***** and doesn't like me to much and I've told him this before. I'll figure something out, the guy that has the doors said he's had the for years and doubts they are going anywhere soon, because there aren't to many posts out there anymore, but that's like trying to predict the weather in Michigan, who knows.

I need a vacation. I like California. Hmmmmm.

I would call a few different truck lines and get rate quotes from them. If you find one you like, you can usually make arrangements over the phone, or worst case, stop at their local terminal. They will ship freight C.O.D. in most cases, so you would have to have cash to pay the driver when your doors arrived. Some will take checks on arrival too, but you should verify that before delivery.
