| I should have a 79 Firebird here for parts this weekend. That will make a comparison easy. I do think the 79 and later front end was longer therefore lower to the ground. The grill openings for the radiator are located lower and may require more open area to cool engine. | |||||||||||

| Yep. The spoilers served a purpose on these cars. They swept air up into the radiator. Ones without the spoiler had a plastic air dam. With the smaller grilles and lack of openings in the 79-81 nose, the spoiler was a bit more important.
