Door Handle Chromer

I need a real one I was unable to get the scratches out of mine before I started taking the finish off. I will need new buttons because they are pitted and there is no use chroming pitting metal.

So whats the better option have these OEM rechromed and buy new buttons or buy some decent aftermarket ones that come with everything. They seem to run between 60-100. No sure what the quality is so let me know if you've had any dealings with the aftermarket stuff or door handle chromers.

I can't tell you where to get your door handles chromed. I can't because I don't know, not because I'm bound and gagged or something. lol! Though, I could be in MaryAnn's Dish Boy fantasy, and then I definitely couldn't tell you. But if I were you, I would just buy the repops. I mean, you spent how much of unnecessary shit, and now you're gonna skimp on the shit that's actually seen? Come on, man!

The problem is finding a good chromer who won't do some shit job on them. Only to have him find out that a few months down the road his door handles are rusting like those damn side pipe heat shields on the Cat. There's cheap chroming and good quality.

Do it yourself man, you can buy small plating kits just for shit like this. As for the pits you need to fill them with solder before re plating over with copper and then chrome, The scratches can be done the same way only depending how deep they are you might not need to solder fill just build up with the copper plate and sand back with some wet'n'dry

I think he wants to plate them so they last, and can actually be touched without the chrome wiping off. By the time he spends all that time and money on a plating kit, he could have bought the repops, and a few extras to spare. lol!

Sounds like I'm better off just buying new ones. I know a guy that chromes over in STL but if it cost more then repops, what the use. I have repop 1/4s and it doesn't get much worse then that, so the repop handles can't be that bad.

Seems there are some cheap ones, I'm guessing "china" and some that are claimed to be "USA" which are a bit more. I really dislike PY but they are about $15 cheaper then Ames. Contrary to HCP belief, I do shop around or good deals, but spending $$ does come rather easily for me You can't f**king take it with you so you might as well Overkill a good Pontiac

I will have my bumper redone though, don't think that is something I would want aftermarket, but that another thread

Ames usually tells you if the repops are any good or not.

Thanks Joe but I'll go w/some new ones. My buddy who help with the body work and paint said I end up doing this I think his exact words were "you're not going to put these shitty looking handles on with a new paint job are you"

Those chroming kits SUCK! stuff looks nice for a year then they look like shit! and for what it costs to send stuff out, and have the work done right, it really doesn't pay. I too say just bite the bullet and buy different ones.

go with Ames for the repop, I bought a set from PY and had to file the base around the handle to get a good fit, that should not be necessary.

FYI, AMES, PY, NPD, Paddock, classic Industries..... ALL buy from the same vendors! In fact they buy from each other too. I was at PY one day when they were on the phone with AMES buying side view mirrors, and interior door handles and window cranks. My 69's interior I bought at PY came from NPD.

Not all stuff is the same. The hood tach is definitely different. I can see the handles coming from the same place though. Who did you use MA?

I use a lot of different places, I use NPD and AMES, and The Parts Place, shop around for best price. Of course I use PY too as they are 15 minutes from me and I get a nice discount there, and can pick up same day I call an order in, but I do use them all.
