Hello all,
I have a very sad tale to tell. The head of a SS valve popped off the stem and bounced around inside of the cylinder for about a second then punched itself right through the piston. So take a look at the pix and let me know what you think, have you ever heard of this before? The head rebuild has about 200 miles on it. Time to start over I guess. [hair]

Hello All,
I've been a Pontiac guy forever. My first car was a 1971 Lemans Sport that I got at 14yrs old. It served as my daily driver for many years. I retired her to race car status in the 90's and I'm currently in process of restoring her. My 2nd car was a 1969 GTO that I raced for a while in the 80's. I've also had many Lemans and GTO's of various years. Glad to be a member of a nicely done Pontiac site.[usa]

A friend gave it to me after it had been sitting behind his grandmother's house since about 1994. It's got a 287 with the Hydramatic in it, both of which I plan to keep in it for now.
Hi gang, I've joined in with the Carolina F-Body Club to show at this years Spring Auto Fair in Concorde/Charlotte,NC on April 10 & 11 and they need 5 more cars at least. It's $20.00 for both days and that covers you and 1 passenger. You have to committ to both days Sat & Sun. Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll get you in-touch with the right person. I went last year just looking for some swap meet parts and saw their cars in the show. There were some nice ones, but they sure could use some more TA's and Firebirds so I offered to join them this year and they were very welcoming. If you've never been it's a great event. There's swap meet, car corral, show, and many vendors. It's one of the best events on the east coast.

hello people,
I bought a '68 firebird convertable last summer that is pretty much untouched and has the original OHC 6cyl. 250 w/ a one barrel carb. I know they made a 4 barrel version and am considering converting as I could use a little more umpf. Pretty gutless from 40-60mph as is. The stats seem to indicate 40hp difference (175-215) between one and 4 barrel models. I am trying to keep it stock/original in general. I was hoping someone could answer some questions on this subject.
i.e.
1. Would i have to get new intake AND exhast manifolds?
2. Did the 4 barrel model have the same cam as the one barrel?
3. How bad would I destroy my mpg?
4. Any good hints on where might I look for manifolds, 4 barrel etc.
5. Any thing I should know that I don't? I don't know much ;-)
Thanks for any info/help!

Hi, my name is Gary & I live in Washington State. I have a 1979 Trans-Am that has been in the family since 1981 - in fact my wife bought it about 4 years before we even met!! It was a 400-4spd that I have since stroked to 462 & backed that up with a Viper spec T-56.

I've also installed sub-frame connectors, solid body mounts, Global West tubular upper & lower front control arms, QA-1 coil-over shocks, GW rear leaf springs with their Del-Alum bushings. It still has the original 15X8 Snowflake wheels that I stripped, polished, masked (don't even ask how many Beers it took to mask all the spokes on those wheels)!! and re-painted.

When I had the Engine built I paid the extra $$ and had it dyno'd: it made peaks of 495HP & 563FT-LBS, from 2,600 through 5,200 RPM it made over 500FT-LBS.

That's all I can think of for now, I'll read up on how to create a gallery and post up some pictures.

Looks like a great site, I hope I can share some things I've learned along the way, and I'm positive I'll learn from all of you.

Hi, I'm Frabru. I have a 1967 Firebird powered by a slightly modified 1974 455ci engine.
The cylinder heads have a 7 cast on the center exhaust ports. I've searched on line to find what the specs are on them, but all of the codes with 7 also include a letter, mine have only the 7.
Can anyone help me identify these heads?

Thanks
