  • Head removal?

Hey guys, I'm sure this is going to be "dumb as a box of rocks" question from me..lol. I'm tearing down an old Pontiac 350 and I'm trying to remove the heads. I've taken out all the center bolts, exhaust manifold, push rods, etc, even the ground wire.

I will be the first to admit I'm no motor guy, but shouldn't it come off? I tried to break the gasket loose with a seam splitter and putty knife. And it won't budge. What bolts am I forgetting...lol.? God, I feel stupid..lol.

      Is the intake off?

Are all 10 of the head bolt out?

I posted a picture of a pair of heads.

If all bolts are out use your breaker bar handle, put it down into a intake port and pull up(outwards).

And NEVER EVER use a putty knife, seam splitter, screw driver, etc to split the head from the block. You can damage the block and/or head beyond repair.

I used a thick putty knife and a seam splitter..LOL.. Just kidding Chuck!!. They were just severley seized on. Sand bag and a rubber mallet does wonders. Thanks guys.

What was wrong with just the rubber mallet?
