When I start the car I have to keep my foot on the throttle in order for it to stay on. Otherwise, it turns off. Help!

Maybe a little more description of the issue. Does it start easy? Does it take a lot of pumping on the carb to get it to start and then are you pumping it to keep it running, or just hold the pedal down a bit to keep it going? Noises? Hissing would steer you towards the vac leak Don mentioned. Stumbling under load, driveable? Could be a fuel pressure issue. Float issue in the carb.

Give us more info to work with here.

Is it still the stock Q jet? Sound like the air mix is pluged.

He must still be in the garage holding the pedal down to keep it running since he seemed to busy to reply for 5 months. Maybe he was in a closed garage running it and now both he and the car have died. The car we can fix. If you can get the smell of death out of it.
