  • Bringing back a pontiac 400 from the grave

Here's a little thread on the resurrection of a rust filled Pontiac 400. Some douche bag left it in the weather to die miserably, but I am going to save it. First process is getting these pistons free.

Re: Bringing back a pontiac 400 from the grave

After cleaning all the crap out, I decided to try some homemade penetration oil concoctions.

From left to right, this is what I tried.
Rust remover, transfluid/lacquer thinner, wd-40, and brake fluid/lacquer thinner.

Only one worked. The Trans fluid/thinner. So now I'm soaking the other side with that concoction. We will see if it was a fluke. I will allow them to soak for a couple hours.

What was the ratio of trans fluid to thinner?

50/50. I'd like to use acetone next time because its cheaper, but I don't have any.

Well. After a little soak, they came out. Bit it was all for nothing. This poor 400 cannot be saved by me. Very sad, indeed.

Let's all bow our heads in silence for this departed 1975 400. It's yet another to fall to the cruelty of neglect. Not even Obamacare could save this one. This one will be sent to the scrap yard, only to be melted down and become a Honda part. Very sad, indeed.

I can't help but wonder how many have seen their end due to MaryAnn's corrosive hate.
