  • Under Dash Wires in FB

I have one bulb connector (gray plastic) with two gray wires (one short attached to firewall, one going to wire harness)

I also have another bulb connector (blackish plastic, with metal snap retainer) with one single gray wire coming from it.

OK, one I assume goes to the gauge cluster. Just don`t know which one.
    The other one goes where?

The metal one sounds like a bulb for the heater. Not sure about the other. Glove box, radio, gauges? When does it come on?

The black plastic looking one is fiber optic. The bulb end goes to the top corner of the gauge cluster and the other end goes to the ash tray.

tonight I hooked up those last lights.I connected up the battery.all the dashboard lights seem to be working. however when I turn the top slide switch on the heater, the heater lights will dim off and then come back on. Is there anything I could do for that?

Leave the heater on or off.

Make sure its a good connection where the bulb plugs in. No corrosion on the bulb socket and none on the heater switch housing.

Sounds like the bulb connection. The housing for the heater controls is plastic. Make sure your wires for the bulb are not tangled or rubbing on the heater controls.

You may get lucky with Classic, Ames, PYner. If not, try some of the gauge restoration services out there. You'll have to google for their names unless someone else here has used one of them. May also be the same for newer late 70s Birds/crapmaros, so look for someone parting one. DB or Chuck??? You gots anything like that?

I have one but don't wanna cut a complete harness unless it's absolutely necessary. Have you checked it? Can it be cleaned? A small pipe fitting wire brush works great. Check the tabs and see if they are bent. And of course check and clean the bulb.

I cleaned the bulb, but the actual metal part where it press fits into the plastic comes out when you put the bulb in. I tried to hot glue it. (totally hardcore, right?)
