  • Help with a 1950 ID code?

    I just got a 1950 Pontiac today and I'm not sure if it's a Chieftain, Star Chief or??? All I know is it's a Deluxe model with all the extra trim and other options like a factory visor and radio. I could use some help figuring this out since the only name badges they put on these cars aside from Pontiac was the Silver Streak badge on the fender.
    The body tag is what I'm most interested in. The VIN only gives so much info. So far I have found out it was built in Pontiac MI and it has the correct 6cyl,manual trans drivetrain and that's all the VIN tag gives. I'd like to know exactly what kind of Poncho it is.

    The VIN tag on the driver's A pillar

    Firewall ID tag
    Style # 50-25110
    Trim # 71
    Paint # 04

    And a couple overall pics

    I went to the Pontiac Oakland Club International site www.poci.org to check your style number but couldn't open page cause of a problem. Will try later. I've been a member of POCI for years and years.

      Thanks man. I haven't been able to find much so far on my own lol. I did find some rockers for pretty cheap (45 for the pair) so I may have to jump on those

        right here is the breakdown

        P = Pontiac Michigan Plant
        6 = Inline Six
        T = 1950
        S = Syncromesh
        the last digits are the serial number

        2511D body style says its a Chieftain 2 door Sedan deluxe

          Thanks Chief, that's what I needed! Now I can do a little more research on it and see what parts are available. I will definitely keep you updated on the progress!

              It looks like they only list body parts back to '55. I'll have to check them out a little more though. I'm pretty sure I'm needing the brake spring hardware kit for it at least.

                  One more thing- where can I find the engine and trans #s? I'd like to find out if it's a #s matching car. The motor and trans are the right ones according to the VIN, but I don't know if they're original.

                    The engine should be the same as the tag you posted. It can be found on the raised pad left hand side front of the block. Trams probably won't have a number

                          Thanks, Chief I did find it on the front edge of the block. It's numbers matching! The number on the block is identical to the ID tag on the A pillar.

                              Anyone have any idea of the production numbers for the '50 Chieftain coupe?
