  • Firebird trim factory mislabel ???

Ive owned 3 Firebirds, all early 4th gen. For V6 base, the MODEL category says FIREB. For the Formulas its says FORM. For the T/As it says TRANSA
Now my current 'bird i copped off of craigslist was labeled as a Trans Am. on my title its labeled FFT. Ive checked the VIN with five decoder sites. one came up Formula only, one T/A only and the rest are exactly Formula/Trans Am. WHICH IS IT?! It has the 150 mph gauge cluster and the guy before me raced it to 130 on the highway (originally sold it cuz he has to pay a $1700 fine ) I figured it was a true T/A since my Formula had the V6 110 cluster and top speed restricted governor. Im wondering how many more are out there mislabeled??

My insurance papers always say Formula/Trans am.
I will look on my title when I can find it.

My Trans Am VIN says mine is a Formula. I checked on it and found out that all Tran Ams and Formulas are both WS9 cars(see RPO codes). They are both V-8 conversion from the base Firebird. There was never a Fourth Generation V-6 Formula.

I'll introduce myself in another post.

Let me clarify what I tried to say in my previous post: VIN's are
            not model specific. This is
            why your DMV
            registration and or
            Insurance info may say
            Formula/Trans Am.
            Basically the Vin# does
            not distinguish between
            Formula and Trans Am it
            Identifies a V8 Firebird.
            The RPO codes are the
            only way to properly
            identify the model.
            W66 is the Formula
            Merchandise Pkg
            Y82 is the Trans Am
            Merchandise Pkg
            Also the WS9 RPO is
            refered to as the
            "Formula Conversion
            Pkg" .
            This does not mean that
the car is or ever was a
            Formula. It means the
            Car is V8 Equipped. The
            aforementioned W66 and
            Y82 RPO Codes must be
            present to identify the
            model. So all V8 Firebirds
            will carry the WS9 RPO
            WS9 + W66 = Formula
            WS9 + Y82 = Trans Am
