  • TH400 Tranny brace Question

    Hello Guys

My first post on this forum so 'hello' to you all.

Restoring a 68/69 GTO basket case and I need to make my own tranny brace for 3 spd auto TH400 on coupe frame.
Wanting to make something like this:
    https://www.opgi.com/gto/1968/chassi...ounts/CH28442/

Do any of you hardcore guys have dimensions or plans for such a thing?

    Thanks for any help.

That's a convertible crossmember, which will be narrower. The convertible frames are boxed in so they took a few inches out of the cross member. You didn't mention if it was a vert or not

      Hi
Thanks for your reply. I menioned coupe frame (un-boxed) in initial post, but that is a good point.

Anyone made one and can share plans?

do you have a stock cross member?

the important part is having the tail shaft at the right height for correct u-joint angle. the rest you just make fit as you go along!
        it's big! it's bad! & it's ugly!

          Sadly not.
My thoughts were to mount the engine and tranny (with mount fitted), fit the prop shaft to tranny and axle and take measurements to determine the dimensions. Would this approach work?

yes. but you still need the proper tail shaft height. i have a friend that has a 68 gto with a 400th. i can get you some measurements.

            is your body off?

              Hi Rowsley.

The body is just sitting on the fame, not yet secured so can be raised off again if necessary.
Be great if you could get some measurements to use.

You can get aftermarket crossmembers too. Comp Engineering still makes universal mounts. I used one. It did the job nicely.

I just took one off to install a stuperior th350 back in my car. It held the inferior th400 in place just fine though.

That it will. But it has to be welded together.
